samediduveloApril  Samedis du Vélo. If you fancy biking and discovering new places, then join pro-vélo one of these Saturday afternoons. Once a month they offer two options for a gentle bike ride.

11 avril, 2 mai, 6 juin, 4 juillet, 1 août, 5 septembre

Visit a cultural site in town, explore the countryside, learn how to fix your bike. The rides are easy and accessible to all. Meeting point in front of the school of Cropettes. Make sure to register to book a spot. You can borrow a bike for free as well.

March 27 – 29Journées européennes des métiers d’art. Find out what’s going on behind the scene in cultural places. Geneva is taking part in this European event.  A dozen of places are opening their doors to the public and providing guided tours and performances. You need to register by email journeesdesmetiersdart@ville-ge.ch. Make sure to let them know what you wish to see or attend. For instance learn how books are restored at the library. Learn about the herbarium at the Botanical Gardens or what professions exist in the theatres.

April 10-18* (Don’t miss): Cully jazz. 2 weeks of pure bliss if you like small festivals and good music. Lots of free concerts in wine cellars and bigger concerts on the 2 stages. Go early, be ready for a big crowd and enjoy! Taking place in a beautiful wine village on the lakeshore, just after Lausanne

April 15-19Exhibition of inventions.  More than 700 exhibitors from all over the world. Researchers, inventors, manufacturers in all areas. Not to miss if you are curious! Palexpo. Geneva

April 17 –  25 : Visions du Réel Festival. Film festival breaking away from the mainstream, showing a diversity of excellent quality productions : experimental films, essays, diaries, family films, major reports, historical inquiries, epic or fragmentary stories. Nyon.

tulipFrom mid-April onwards: Morges Tulip Festival: every spring, a delight for flower lovers. Even though the activities of the festival start at the end of March, the tulips won’t be blooming till mid April. A very nice way to spend the day in the park and having a picnic, surrounded with beautiful colours and a view on the lake.

About the Author

Originally from the UK, I have a legal background. I have been in the Geneva area since 2005 and love the mountains, the lake and the quality of life here. The Winter snow sports are fantastic and the Summer season is full of festivals, outdoor sports, picnics and barbecues. I have met some great people here from all of the world.
