At 7.20pm on Friday night the phone rang. “You have an order for 8pm, would you mind if I deliver it early?” This was a good start.
At 7.30pm the owner delivered the dinner himself in a branded “Just Cook It” bag. Nicely packaged, it contained individually wrapped ingredients for that evening’s dinner.READ MORE
Breakfast meetings are all the rage from London to Mexico City, a more sociable and efficient way to start the day and get things done before getting to the office. In London its almost impossible to get a breakfast table at the best cafes and restaurants in Mayfair and the City such as Cecchoni’s, or the Wolseley. However breakfast meetings are yet to truly become popular in Geneva. A client organised a breakfast meeting at 8.30 at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, arguably the best hotel in town. The welcome at the hotel was a little indifferent, and we were greeted with; “breakfast is only for guests”. Not a great start. After a lengthy discussion and after having pointed out that there were a number of vacant tables, they relented. Preferring an a la carte option rather than the buffet, we ordered cheese omelettes, fruit salad, fresh orange juice with carrot juice (a “special”), cappuchinos and toast. The breakfast is served in the dining room (where they also serve lunch and the bar area). The ambiance is refined and traditional. So how was the food? The omelettes were served oddly with cheese on a side plate rather than melted […]READ MORE

With a hot July and August its a pleasure to see several outdoor bars and terraces open along the lakeside. Les Voiles has recently opened at Geneve Plage. With 600 sq metres of outdoor white sofas, palm trees and decking, this is the place to be in Geneva at the moment and attracts a more sophisticated smart crowd. Open from 6pm every day until the end of August, there is a lively scene most evenings with a DJ and cocktail menu. Prices are from 7 Chf for beer, cocktails around 18 Chf. There are stunning views across the lake from the bar – its an ideal place to watch the sunset and is a fantastic location. When we visited the bar on Saturday night it was full (call to reserve a table). The music was good but would be improved by more speakers and a better sound system and a better layout for the dancefloor (perhaps on part of the beach so you can dance on the sand). The evening started out fairly relaxed but got livelier after 11pm. There is a basic menu for food with burgers/tapas but there is a missed opportunity to have a more sophisticated menu. […]READ MORE
Step into Eastside and discover a fresh, new experience in Geneva. Previously housing a shop called ‘Village’ the building at 9 Place des Eaux-Vives has been under construction for quite some time. The boarded up windows exhibited scenes of the New York skyline yet offered no clue as to what lay beneath. The mystery surrounding Eastside sparked up quite a tête-à-tête amongst friends – would it be transformed into a contemporary bar? Perhaps a new hair salon, or even an art gallery? For weeks I avidly tried to find the answer and could find nothing. Then one day, all of a sudden, the boards were taken down, the doors were opened and all was revealed – it turns out Eastside is a rather trendy clothes shop. Now the general consensus is that shopping in Geneva can often be a rather insipid experience. On the one hand you have high-end designer boutiques – an exclusive shopping experience that only the truly privileged can afford – and on the other you have a limited selection of high street stores that are pretty uninspiring and leave a lot to be desired. That is until Eastside burst onto the scene. As you pass through […]READ MORE
