Try something new – hire a Ski-doo!

March 30, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

With the end of ski season looming there’s a definite feeling in the air that everyone is keen to make the most of the snow while it lasts. Instead of the usual skiing or snowboarding why not try ski-dooing the next time you head up the slopes? A ski-doo is basically a snow mobile, resembling one of the many thrilling modes of transport you’d expect to see James Bond speeding along on in the famous films. Fancying ourselves as the daredevil types, last week a group of friends and I decided to try out ski-dooing on a route situated between Les Carroz and Flaine, after work, at night…in the dark. Now this might sound like a foolish idea and perhaps it was but it was also great fun and something a bit different to do on a school night. We were in a group of 6, though you can go in larger groups, with two people to each ski-doo. On our drive up the mountains we were all convinced that the ski-doo route would be lit up for night time activities but as we reached our destination we realised this was not the case. The only light came from a […]

Last chance to get hold of British goods in Globus!

March 24, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

Last chance to get hold of British goods in Globus!                                                                                          Throughout this month Globus have hosted a promotion endorsing British produce. As Easter closes in and this beautiful department store turns its attention to their Easter displays and wares there is still chance to snap up some British fodder to satisfy any cravings you might have. If you have a sweet tooth and you’re looking for some English chocolate for Easter you can still pick up some deluxe Charbonnel et Walker chocolates, or perhaps some Fosters Fudge or for the more daring a box of Prestat wafer thins infused with fiery chilli or English Earl Grey tea. If chocolate isn’t your thing consider some traditional Uncle Joes Mint Balls or a pot of honey from the London Honey Company. Those of you hankering after a savoury British experience will notice the sea of mini Union Jack flags waving proudly from the cheese counter drawing your eyes […]

Snow Boots!

February 17, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

With Geneva experiencing one of the worst deluges of snow in recent memory, I’m sure most of you will have been caught up in the mayhem that came sweeping in with it. One cheery morning last week, I was stranded at the bus stop for over an hour and a half. I was wearing wellingtons, which I was rather smug about, but as my delay dragged on my feet slowly turned into two blocks of ice. During my sub-zero wait I couldn’t help but notice the weird and wonderful array of snow boots pounding the streets of Geneva. I was rather envious of this toasty looking footwear and decided that I want and most definitely need a pair for myself. This is my first winter in Geneva; I have never skied before (though I am hoping to learn) so I’ve yet to own a pair of snow boots. However, with the recent snowfall I have a feeling they could become my new best friend. So here’s my pick of snow boots to see you through this super cold time of year: Sorel offers a vast range of boots. They have short and long designs but if you like something a […]

Social Media; Find your friends with SBB.Connect!

January 20, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

In France, the SNCF experimented with a social network called iDTGV for its trains and services but eventually abandoned this due to cost and technical problems. SBB launched in December SBB.Connect, a program which connects with Facebook and Twitter to collect your group of friends and contacts. You can now be notified if your friends or contacts are on the same train or tram or in a nearby station. Your contact list can be closed as on Facebook to not receive any unwanted approaches. The initial launch has been a success with the SBB.Connect receiving a high rating on the Swiss App store. Undoubtedly this has big potential for the train company as a platform for revenue in the future. What are your experiences with SBB.Connect? You can see more details at www.sbbconnect.ch Email us at info@biskotti.ch with your thoughts.

December 09, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

The Epsom Manotel has been refurbished and rebranded and reopens this week under the name, N’vy. This is the newest boutique hotel in Geneva with a chic designer look, new bar and restaurant located in Paquis. Think funky, chic furniture and a cutting edge American designer theme. We had a sneaky look at a few of the new rooms, Boho and Nomad and we liked what we saw. The 4 star hotel has 153 rooms and has been redesigned by the Paris Architect, Patrick Ribes at a cost of almost 15 million CHF. The Manotel Group owns and operates 3 and 4 star hotels in the centre of the city; The Royal, The Jade, The Auteil, The Kipling, The Edelweiss and The N’vy.   www.manotel.com

Top 5 Gadgets for your Christmas list!

November 25, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

Thinking about what you want for Christmas? Love new gadgets? Biskotti has reviewed some of the latest gadgets that have been released for xmas; here’s our top list of what we want! Some of these are also very useful on your daily commute (see Story of the Week this week). 1. Dr Dre “Beats” Headphones We all wish we were 17 again…Here’s your chance; Beats by Dr Dre are ideal oversized headphones for pop, rock or hip hop which have impressive build quality, design and style. You can upgrade with terrific sound quality and style with the Studio or Pro Models. Not cheap, but they block out surrounding noise (particularly useful when commuting or on an aeroplane)! Check out the eye catching white ones or the colour ones pictured; www.beatsbydre.com Our verdict; 5/5 2. Ipad Mini We checked out the competition; the Kindle Fire, Google Nexus and Microsoft Surface but they just didn’t do it for us; The Ipad mini is more expensive than its rivals. It’s slim at 7.2mm and light at 312g but its fast and responsive with a good 10 hour battery life. It doesn’t have the new retina screen of the new larger Ipad 3 and […]
