Course de l’Escalade: December 7;

More than running, it’s a popular event: groups, families and schools participate. Whether you just watch or run yourself, don’t miss the costumed race (Marmite) at the end of the day. Parc des Bastions. Remember to sign up in November!

Cortège de l'escaladeFête de l’Escalade: December 13 – 15;

A celebration of the victory of the Swiss over the Duke of Savoy in 1602. The Fête includes a parade with 60 horses and 800 people in costumes on Sunday, guided tours of the Old Town where you can enter some secret passages, muskets firing, smaller parades with music all weekend, special markets, accompanied by lovely mulled wine. Also a great opportunity to break and eat the chocolate marmite! More historical facts on the importance of this event and the full program of the fête are on the website;

Christmas Markets

There are several atmospheric Christmas Markets around Geneva;


Christmas Market 13 – 15 December; Nice stalls, hot wine and if you like foie gras, excellent degustation;

Christmas Market November 22 – December 24; Atmospheric market with animations, gift ideas and 150 decorated chalets – nice day out for the family;

Originally from the UK, I have a legal background. I have been in the Geneva area since 2005 and love the mountains, the lake and the quality of life here. The Winter snow sports are fantastic and the Summer season is full of festivals, outdoor sports, picnics and barbecues. I have met some great people here from all of the world.
