Free concerts all summer in Parc de la Grange
Contrary to popular belief, not everything has a price in Geneva. Yes, it is still possible to be entertained for free – and even by the same high quality standards as with a paid ticket or entry fee. And the setting is beautiful, in Parc de la Grange in Eaux-Vives, not far from Baby Plage, hidden away in a clearing surrounded by trees. You will find two types of people, the enthusiastic concert-goers who will aim to grab seats amongst the rows available at the front, or the more relaxed groups who will pick a spot of grass further back, sit down with some food and drink and enjoy the atmosphere and musical background.
The spot is certainly a great place for friends, and families with kids, to gather and chill for a picnic in the park, giving the place a real festival and summer feel. The free concerts are held every Wednesday and Friday at 8.30pm. Called “Musiques colorées” – an integral part of the programme of the “Musiques en été” Festival organised by the Geneva department of Sport and Culture, the Ella Fitzgerald stage hosts a variety of World Music styles:
The “Musiques en été” Festival offers an eclectic programme for all tastes – although the “Musiques colorées” programme above is the only free option. The rest of the programme consists of Classical music concerts, hosted indoors in the stunning Victoria Hall or outside in the intimate courtyard setting in the old town at the Cour de l’Hôtel de Ville – where a number of Jazz concerts also take place. Entry fees for the Classical and Jazz programme range from CHF 15 to CHF 40, depending on choice of zone (seating), student discounts etc.
