Geneva Out & About: Week of November 26, 2012

Lots of music festivals and concerts this week! Styles for everyone! Highlights also include the Escalade race in the Old Town, the circus and the Humanitarian career fair.

Barkavin: A great opportunity to do something different this week and taste local wine on a boat. 20CHF. Meet local producers from Geneva countryside, learn about the wine, try it and why not buy some? Jardin Anglais pier. November 29-30, 6pm-10pm

Festival Face H:  Creative and innovative music festival to promote unknown talented  artists. Started in 2006, usually taking place at l’Usine, this year it’s been moved to another place we love and can strongly recommend: Théâtre de la Parfumerie. Don’t miss Moondog project and the Ghanaian start Ebo Taylor! November 30 – December 2.

Vents de l’Est: Music from Slavic countries. Lithurgical songs but also festive music from the country, popular music, lectures and films. Cité Bleue. Check the full program here. Avenue de MIremont 46. 35 CHF. November 29 – December 2.

Tambour Battant Festival: Let’s learn more about African culture! There will a fashion show, theatre, exhibitions, debates, workshops and story telling. I went last year and saw a great play with lots of humour. Don’t miss the concerts of Sidi Touré. The shows will take place in various venues such as Grutli Cinemas, Palladium, MàD, Maison des Associations and Salle du Môle. Special pass for concerts and shows at 80 CHF. Course de l’Escalade: More than running, it’s a popular event: groups, families and schools participate. Whether you just watch or run yourself, don’t miss the costumed race (Marmite) at the end of the day. Parc des Bastions. December 1.

Rock this town: A great rock night with Nick Waterhouse. CHF 18. November 29. 8pm. PTR, l’Usine.

Cirque de Noël: The circus is back on plaine de Plainpalais for a special Christmas edition until January 13.

Spain Concert: The US band (Indi Rock) Spain are back with a fourth album, Soul of Spain. .  30 CHF. November 30. Paroisse de l’Epiphanie, rue du Lignon 32, Vernier.

Humanitarian career fair: Networking, lectures, debates to find out everything you want to know about this professional sector. December 1-2. Cité de la Solidarité Internationale. Annemasse.

Save the date: December 13, 8pm Live from the Royal Opera House, watch the ballet Casse-Noisette by Tchaïkovski at cinema Les Scala (rue des Eaux-Vives 23) Les Scalas broadcast operas or ballets once a month. Tickets are 28CHF. These are great cultural events at a decent price!
