Geneva Out & About: Week of October 15, 2012
Another busy week with a great multicultural festival, some very good musicians in town, a taste of Brazil and autumn festivals!
InteGREAT Festival: A couple of weeks ago, Biskotti published an article about multiculturalism in Geneva. This festival is a great way to celebrate and promote integration, diversity and cultural exchanges. On the menu: flamenco, tango and martial arts! Bolivian food, amongst others, debates on cultural identity, book readings, movies and art exhibitions. Full program here. Maison de Quartier de la Jonction. Avenue de Sainte-Clotilde, 18bis. October 17-20.
Les jeudis de la guitare – Guitar Thursdays: This is a great, monthly guitar concert to attend! This Thursday, they will host the magnificent Carlos Perez who has been awarded many prizes over the years. Check this video if you want an idea of what to expect. Make sure to book in advance: 022.328.99.94. Théâtre les Salons. October 18 at 8pm.
Sambafest: If you’re in need of a bit of sun during this grey weather, then head to Nyon and immerse yourself in the Brazilian culture! Try their delicacies, join a samba class, watch the carnival, attend some great concerts, learn watercolours, and more! Free activities during the day for all ages. Tickets for the evening are available online. Lots to do, and lots of fun – the Brazilian way! Usine à Gaz. Nyon. October 19-20.
Luff: Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival. Concerts, movies, exhibitions, and workshops. This is the perfect excuse to go to Lausanne! (If you head there, don’t forget to check out the Howard Greenberg exhibition at the Elysée Museum as well!) Luff program. October 17-21.
Save the Date: November 3-4. Another wine event! Local winemakers will be delighted to explain to you what the new wine “bourru“ is, and the whole process of fermentation. Walk through the vineyards of Luins, near Gland, and enjoy some food and music along the way! 15 CHF to purchase a glass and taste wine, in all of the wineries. I went last year and we had such a blast! The weather was fantastic and people were really friendly. Shuttles are available from Gland train station, and they take you to all of the wineries. Information in French here.
WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
Ice-skating party: The ice-rinks are officially open and the rink in Vernets organises regular parties at the weekend during autumn and winter! Vernets Ice-Rink, Rue Hans-Wildorf, 4, Acacias. October 20 at 8.30pm
