Sunday Market in Divonne-les-Bains

For a sprightly start to your Sunday why not pop over the border and visit the weekly market in the French spa town of Divonne-les-Bains. This hub of bustling activity is a great way to awaken your senses on a Sunday morning. With many food shops closed in Geneva on a Sunday you can find a plethora of fresh produce at this market to tickle your taste buds and get your creative culinary juices flowing.

The market mainly offers food produce including fruit and vegetables such as vine tomatoes, plump cherries, and ripe strawberries, dried fruits with gogi berries and apricots, nuts, an assortment of breads, fine cheese and meats with a variety of saucisson to savour. An ocean of fresh fish glistens out at you, whetting your appetite; you can even enjoy sampling the oysters whilst washing them down with a glass of crisp champagne.   A rainbow of spices and teas adds to the vibrancy of the market, complimented by bags of colourful bonbons for those with a sweet tooth.

Bowls of perfumed dried flowers and soaps augment the heady scent in the air providing an alternative option to just food purchases. Fresh flower stalls stand pretty as you walk around and you can even update your wardrobe with a floaty summer dress should you choose.

There are boutique shops that open alongside the market with a treasure trove of delights and a choice of restaurants and cafes where you can order a drink and relax whilst watching market life pass you by.

Once you’ve had your fill of shopping you can take a pleasant walk to Lac de Divonne. Completed in 1964, this beautiful stretch of water spans 99 acres with a path that loops right around it and is popular with cyclists, joggers and Sunday strollers with their children and dogs.

This popular market is open from 9am until 1pm every Sunday. The easiest way to travel there is by car but you can also take public transport by catching the train to Coppet or Nyon and taking a bus from there.
