Breakfast in town and a stroll along the Arve…

November 25, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

How about going for a walk this week? Whether you want to stay in town or go in the country, Geneva offers a lot of options for short and easy walks. A really nice one is to go along the Arve River; It’s a good idea to take bus number 8 to Pont-Sierre to and begin from there to walk all the way back to Jonction. Or you go in the other direction and start from Jonction. Make sure you have good shoes, as it might get a bit muddy! You’ll be walking through forests and see great autumn-coloured trees; you will also go via Carouge. What I also find interesting is the colour of the water that keeps changing and all the birds you can observe if you are quiet enough. If you need a map you can find one here. The City of Geneva website has a list of 10 walks that are all quite fun to do, especially to discover or re-discover parks, museums and places you probably haven’t even noticed. I would start the day with breakfast before the walk but feel free to have brunch after your exercise! A good place is Chez Quartier, on rue […]

November 05, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

This week don’t miss the University film club, the Autumn Fair at Palexpo, Pony Run Run, board games, Peruvian food, movies with English subtitles, a fun feminist party, and tales! LOCO motion: Why not join the UNIGE Monday film club? Tonight, don’t miss Crash by David Cronenberg! Every year, the University of Geneva holds a film club on Mondays. This season, the theme is transport…so, movies of all genres and eras will be featured that take a look at trains, bikes, cars and other machines. I personally won’t miss El Viaje, a beautiful piece on Patagonia, on November 26. CHF 8. Auditorium Arditi. Place du Cirque, Avenue du Mail 1. Every Monday until December 17, at 8pm. Les Automnales: Autumn Fair. Not only a good way to find out what’s new in the shopping world -and maybe find your Christmas gifts – but also lots of activities and shows. 3 main topics for the exhibition: housing, leisure and cooking. Check out the latest innovations! The fair includes lots of demonstrations and fun activities: cooking workshops, after-work drinks with DJs, a treasure hunt, a running race, circus and theatre. 10 CHF. Palexpo. November 9-18. Make sure to check the 3 special small fairs: The Art of […]

Awesome Autumn!

October 29, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

With Halloween this week, and the clocks changing, there’s no denying it’s that time of year again…autumn! Whilst autumn may be gloomy at times, there are definitely some positives – even in Geneva! For one, the chestnut man has found his way back to Bel-Air! For another, the lakeside is just as beautiful in autumn as it is during the summer. Some of the most spectacular sunsets occur this time of year, and you don’t have to wait until 10pm to see them! The leaves around town are also looking particularly vivid, these days with their beauty! If you want an even more dramatic view of the changing colours, then you can always take a trip up one of the nearby mountains, like the Sur Cou, for example. It’s also time for the bird migrations, and that makes the lakeside the ideal spot for some bird watching! Over 130 different species can pass through Geneva, each year! Whilst binoculars do come in handy to see the passing birds in detail, it’s not essential to have them in order to enjoy the wildlife. So, if you’re looking for a way to spend your extra hour this week, why not put on […]
