Chilling Out in Carouge

April 10, 2014 / by / 0 Comment

I don’t know about you, but I always forget about Carouge – despite the fact that it is one of the nicest areas to wander around, especially on a Sunday! Cozy cafés, concerts, art, movies and even a bit of shopping are on the to-do-list.

A Dinner at… L’Equinoxe

December 01, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

In the centre of Carouge is this little inconspicuous café/bistro, which leaves you feeling quite uninspired when walking past. After reading reviews online, however, I decided that I would give L’Equinoxe a shot.

An Evening At… Qu’Importe!

August 08, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

In Geneva we are very spoilt when it comes to choices of bars. There are some wonderful places scattered over the city, however one of my favourite areas to head to is Carouge. This quaint part of the city hosts a number of great bars and restaurants, including this week’s choice: Qu’Importe. Qu’Importe is situated on the main route through Carouge, making it an easy location when giving directions to your group! I decided to meet friends here for a few drinks and a bite to eat on a Thursday evening… Qu’Importe has a wonderful outdoor terrace at the front of the bar with numerous seating options. Due to the glorious summer weather we have been experiencing recently, the terrace area has been filling up quite quickly, so it is advised to arrive early should you wish to sit outside. My group and I arrived at 7:30pm and the terrace was already full, so we had no option but to sit inside. Although we would have preferred to spend the evening outside, the main bar area in Qu’Importe is definitely not a disappointment! The bar has a very cosy and rustic atmosphere, with warm woods and soft lighting. During the summer, they also open […]

Breakfast in town and a stroll along the Arve…

November 25, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

How about going for a walk this week? Whether you want to stay in town or go in the country, Geneva offers a lot of options for short and easy walks. A really nice one is to go along the Arve River; It’s a good idea to take bus number 8 to Pont-Sierre to and begin from there to walk all the way back to Jonction. Or you go in the other direction and start from Jonction. Make sure you have good shoes, as it might get a bit muddy! You’ll be walking through forests and see great autumn-coloured trees; you will also go via Carouge. What I also find interesting is the colour of the water that keeps changing and all the birds you can observe if you are quiet enough. If you need a map you can find one here. The City of Geneva website has a list of 10 walks that are all quite fun to do, especially to discover or re-discover parks, museums and places you probably haven’t even noticed. I would start the day with breakfast before the walk but feel free to have brunch after your exercise! A good place is Chez Quartier, on rue […]

Christmas Markets!

November 18, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

Christmas might seem far away but it’s actually right around the corner ! Like every year, there will be Christmas markets everywhere. You’ll find good ones and less good ones. Of course if you have time, you should head to Strasbourg, Basel or Lucerne, as they are much bigger and more interesting there. However, Montreux and Lausanne both have some good things to offer. So why not check them out this Sunday? Both markets start on Friday and will last till December 24. So you have plenty of time. The Montreux Christmas market has an established reputation. It’s nice to stroll along the lake, enjoy some mulled wine, check out the stalls, find some gifts and shop till you drop… And it’s also the 1st edition of the Lights Festival Lausanne, which looks promising. So why not to head to Montreux and stop by Lausanne on the way back to enjoy these two towns on Sunday? I would start with wandering around Montreux and then come back by Lausanne, to make sure you see the illuminated city at night. I come from Lyon, the city that has the most amazing light festival from December 6 to December 9. If you […]
