Lots of music festivals and concerts this week! Styles for everyone! Highlights also include the Escalade race in the Old Town, the circus and the Humanitarian career fair. Barkavin: A great opportunity to do something different this week and taste local wine on a boat. 20CHF. Started in 2006, usually taking place at l’Usine, this year it’s been moved to another place we love and can strongly recommend: Théâtre de la Parfumerie. Don’t miss Moondog project and the Ghanaian start Ebo Taylor! November 30 – December 2. Vents de l’Est: Music from Slavic countries. This week, don’t miss: Stand up comedians, an afterwork concert, chocolate fair and Halloween parties of all kinds. International Comedy Club: In need of a good laugh? Want to see something in English? Once a month, Uptown (rue de la Servette, 2) hosts the International Comedy Club, and some of the best comic artists perform in Geneva! Stand-up comedians, Peter Firman and Joe Rowntree, are in town this Tuesday! Peter is recognized as the UK’s leading comedian/magician, and Joe is a famous UK comedian, actor, writer and TV presenter. Tickets are available online for 35 CHF. October 23 at 8pm. Jazz Contreband: Don’t miss out on this great jazz festival! Concerts are all over the region, and are spread between 18 different venues. Concerts are not only taking place in Geneva, but also in Nyon and Annecy. In Geneva, AMR and Le Chat Noir are particularly good places to check-out because of their nice atmosphere. You can also head to Onex or Meyrin (easily accessed by tram), or to Annemasse, where I, personally, won’t miss Marcus Miller on October 23! All of the details are here. Everyday until October 26. Animatou: International animated movie festival with workshops and films for all ages! They are presenting a lot of short movies, as well as some premieres and documentaries in smaller cinemas, (Grütli, Spoutnik, Bio Cinema, Scalaand Nord-Sud) and larger ones, like Pathé. Highlights of the week include a dance festival, Turkish music, a short-movie night and classic cars! One and Only Fluxum Festival: The Fluxum Foundation has been supporting artists for 10 years, and they are celebrating their anniversary with an amazing dance festival! They’ll have a different topic each day: not only can you catch a show, but you will also be able to watch a film or learn some dance techniques, thanks to the free workshops open to everyone.  I’ve seen some of the artists before and they are very impressive. Highlights of the week: cycle for charity, go dancing in a theater, see how great cultural projects can involve the local population, discover a fantastic singer and more! Tous en Selle with the Red Cross How about doing a bit of sport for a good cause? Why not join this cycling event organised in the Geneva countryside, in the villages of Presinge and Jussy? The more 10 Km tours you do, the more money you will raise to support local kids, by helping to pay for their education and holidays. You can register online or on-the-spot when you go on Sunday. They even have a daycare if you want to drop off your kids! If you don’t like cycling, you can also go in order to support the riders and enjoy the concerts and other activities in the village.
