Whether you just watch or run yourself, don’t miss the costumed race (Marmite) at the end of the day. Parc des Bastions. Remember to sign up in November! http://www.escalade.ch Fête de l’Escalade: December 13 – 15; A celebration of the victory of the Swiss over the Duke of Savoy in 1602. The Fête includes a parade with 60 horses and 800 people in costumes on Sunday, guided tours of the Old Town where you can enter some secret passages, muskets firing, smaller parades with music all weekend, special markets, accompanied by lovely mulled wine. Also a great opportunity to break and eat the chocolate marmite! There is something everyday this week! Party on Monday and Wednesday, go shopping on Thursday or Sunday. Enjoy some Colombian music or an Opera and take your children to the English Library. Human Rights Night Party: Who said one could not party on a Monday night? To celebrate Human Rights Day, go to Uptown. DJs such as Juliano Lopez and Luluxpo will be there. All profits are going to 6 NGOs. CHF 15.  Free if you have a wristband from the campaign. See the facebook event for more details December 10. From 8pm Activities in Les Grottes: One our favorite neighbourhoods in Geneva – which looks like a small village inside the town –  has a lot going on this week. Special shopping night on December 13, until 10pm on rue de la Sibérie, Rue des Grottes and rue de la Faucille.  Christmas tea will be offered. On December 14, don’t  miss the concerts organized by Pré-en-Bulle from 6pm on place des Grottes. Soup and music to support Collectif 500, to save Les Grottes from being demolished. This week highlights include the European Outdoor films tour, the Percussion festival, the Escalade and also a Bogeyman parade, a special indoor Christmas market, music for everyone and the trees and lights festival! European Outdoor Film Tour : if you need some adrelanine, don’t miss this evening. 8 short movies about extreme sports and adventures ! And a special film with the singer ZAZ at the top of Mont-Blanc. For the first time in Switzerland, this tour is the biggest festival of outdoor films in Europe. Movies will be shown in 200 cities. This week, head to AMR for some jazz, enjoy the Akouphene Festival, observe the skies, listen to some good stories and don’t miss Les Créatives Onex Festival! The South American film festival is still on as well; Akouphene Festival: 10th edition for this very special electro music festival. 20 CHF per concert. Don’t miss Rue du Nord / Sinlab “The Flying Dutchmen” on Friday, an interaction between sound and video. Most concerts take place on Bateau-Geneve at 8:30pm, on Quai Gustave Ador but there will also be a performance by Brice Catherin at the Saint Jean Library on Saturday afternoon. I am looking forward to the brunch and the trumpet concert by Mazen Kerbaj  on Sunday at the Villa Berlusconi in Grand-Lancy, a really nice setting. November 23-25 AMR Jam Session: If you like jazz, every Tuesday, the AMR (Association to encourage improvised music) has great musicians come and play together. Free entrance. They also have regular concerts on other nights (CHF 20). Jazz Contreband: Don’t miss out on this great jazz festival! Concerts are all over the region, and are spread between 18 different venues. Concerts are not only taking place in Geneva, but also in Nyon and Annecy. In Geneva, AMR and Le Chat Noir are particularly good places to check-out because of their nice atmosphere. You can also head to Onex or Meyrin (easily accessed by tram), or to Annemasse, where I, personally, won’t miss Marcus Miller on October 23! All of the details are here. Everyday until October 26. Animatou: International animated movie festival with workshops and films for all ages! They are presenting a lot of short movies, as well as some premieres and documentaries in smaller cinemas, (Grütli, Spoutnik, Bio Cinema, Scalaand Nord-Sud) and larger ones, like Pathé.
