Ice-Skating and Brunch in Parc des Bastions

November 12, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

Personally, November is definitely not my favorite time of the year as the days are becoming colder. However, there are still some outdoor activities you can do in town, like going for a long walk or putting your ice-skates on. The open-air ice-rink in Parc des Bastions is opening on Saturday! It’s quite a small one so it’s good for beginners or ideal if you have kids; it’s definitely a nice setting. Whether you wish to ice-skate or play hockey, Geneva offers several locations; Here is a list of places open on Sundays. (For the full week schedule please check the city of Geneva website) Patinoire de l’Europe: behind the commercial centre Planete Charmille – av de l’Europe 11  (small outdoor one) Open from 11am to 6pm. Parc des Bastions: inside the park just next to the chess games (small outdoor one). Open from 11am to 6pm. Patinoire de Carouge: Place de Sardaigne. November 12, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

This week don’t miss a great hip hop festival, a blues concert, board games for everyone, a fantastic film festival, Cumbia, a Christmas fair and the family village! “Les Automnales” is also still on at Palexpo. Communes Ikation Hip Hop Festival: This festival aims at showing the true values and the multiple aspects of this rich, but too often undermined, culture. 7 communes have created an association to allow young artists to perform and emphasize creativity, non-violence, respect and tolerance. It started last Friday with a photo exhibition on Boulevard des Promenades. From November 17 onwards there will be open-dances sessions, open mikes nights, and concerts. You can also join one of the workshops and learn how to write, how to make graffiti, slam or sound sampling…Basically be creative! Full program here. Maison de quartier, Halles de la Fonderie and Espace Grosselin – Carouge Until November 24 La ville en jeux: Play with your family and friends. Go back to the 18th century and discover some great board games from that time. For all ages, even the really little ones. Also some theater performance by and for kids. Yummy Bagel Brunch!

October 15, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

Unfortunately Cafe de la Paix has just closed! Watch this space if they re-open and check out our restaurant section for other ideas… Café de la Paix is one of these places you find by chance, and that you immediately fall in love with! It’s a great and affordable restaurant in Plainpalais, and they make tasty dishes and always have a vegetarian option. You always feel welcome there. Every Tuesday, they host the Lindy Hop Party at 8:30 pm, and it’s a good way to have fun in the middle of the week, while also being a nice alternative to salsa dancing. Café de la Paix also has live music on Fridays, with bands of all kinds. Follow them on Facebook to get their updates. They also have an exhibition of paintings on the wall, so be sure to take a look! After all, their motto is Arts & Bagels! And yes…in case you’re skeptical…the bagels are delicious! They have them everyday, of course, but my recommendation is to go there for Sunday brunch. Scrambled eggs, salads, and bircher muesli are also on the menu. It’s one of the best deals in town (Small brunch for 15 CHF and big […]

Vineyard Terraces of Lavaux

October 08, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

It’s time to get some fresh air! Located between Lausanne and Montreux, Lavaux is a great place to admire the changing colours of autumn. You can enjoy a walk through the vineyards with a magnificent view on the lake and the mountains and, while you’re there, why not stop for a good lunch in one of the picturesque villages, or try some local wine in one of the many cellars?  My recommendation is to go to Grandvaux and start your walk from there. How long you want to walk is really up to you! If you’re feeling more adventurous, then there is a nice hike from Saint Saphorin that goes all the way to Lutry – 11 kilometers in total, but you can stop at any point, if you get tired. There are yellow walking signs everywhere, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost!. The only issue when you go by train is that you’re dependent on its schedule. Trains run roughly every hour, depending on the village you are in, but make sure to check with the cff before you leave. If you don’t want to walk, you can also take the little Lavaux Express train that […]

Luigia Opens a Second Location…Who’s Ready for Pizza?

October 01, 2012 / by / 0 Comment

Hidden away on Rue Lachenal, near the Old Town, Luigia has a fast-growing reputation as one of the best pizzerias in town. Despite the previous history of this location as a garage, they have managed to make the restaurant feel modern and unique with its glass atrium and wooden floors. Luigia is one of the few restaurants in Geneva that genuinely has a “buzzy” feel…
