Even though summer seems to have hit Geneva this week, we should always make time for a good movie! Here are the latest movies set to grace our screens this week…

Deux jours, une nuit

Length: 1h35mins

Deux jours

The film tells the story of Sandra, who with the help of her husband, tries to convince her colleagues to forgo their bonuses so she can keep her job. Nominated for Cannes Film festival 2014, this drama is most certainly not short of tears, hugs and raw emotion, focusing on some of the financial struggles of recent times.

Pros & Cons

+ The powerful shots throughout

– A little depressing, dispite being emotive

The Homesman

Length: 2h02mins

The Homesman

Based on a novel of the same name by Glendon Swarthout, The Homesman is a Western film about the story of a man, rescued and obliged to help a self-sufficient unmarried woman with the job of transporting three insane woman East across the land. This film is set to be shocking, somewhat romantic and strangely funny, all at once!

Pros & Cons:

+ Strong performances yet understated characters

– Potentially disappointing for those who have read the novel

X-Men: Days of Future Past

XMen

Length: 2h11mins

Wolverine returns to this movie, set in 2023, with the task of travelling back in time in an attempt to change the course of history and prevent a series of events, which could globally impact man and mutant alike. A successful addition to the X-Men series, this film is set to combine humour with serious drama and action with emotion. A must see for Sci-Fi fans!

Pros & Cons:

+ An exciting for Wolverine fans!

–  It’s basically Sci-Fi…! (sorry, just my opinion!)

Maps to the Stars

Length: 1h51mins

Maps to the Stars

Maps to the Stars is the story of a family dominated by problems. Dr. Weiss’s children are child stars and have experienced the detrimental effects of the darker side of Hollywood. Thrown into the mix is Havana, an actress and patient of Dr.Weiss, who is trying to get a movie made about her late mother, a star from the 1960s. This film is a challenging dark comic tale, which sets to arouse our curious in the other side of stardom. Starring Robert Pattinson, this film could quite possibly appeal more to the ladies out there…!

Pros & Cons

+ Robert Pattinson(!)

– A slightly weird script
