Vineyard Terraces of Lavaux
It’s time to get some fresh air! Located between Lausanne and Montreux, Lavaux is a great place to admire the changing colours of autumn. You can enjoy a walk through the vineyards with a magnificent view on the lake and the mountains and, while you’re there, why not stop for a good lunch in one of the picturesque villages, or try some local wine in one of the many cellars?
My recommendation is to go to Grandvaux and start your walk from there. How long you want to walk is really up to you! If you’re feeling more adventurous, then there is a nice hike from Saint Saphorin that goes all the way to Lutry – 11 kilometers in total, but you can stop at any point, if you get tired. There are yellow walking signs everywhere, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost!. The only issue when you go by train is that you’re dependent on its schedule. Trains run roughly every hour, depending on the village you are in, but make sure to check with the cff before you leave. If you don’t want to walk, you can also take the little Lavaux Express train that leaves from Lutry to go through the vineyards.
If you want to taste wine, most cellars are open on Sunday afternoons. Be sure to call ahead if you are going with a group of people! Here is the list of wineries to choose from. A good one is Caveau Corto in Grandvaux. Another good place to learn about wine (and also get a taste, of course!) is Lavaux Vinorama in Rivaz.
If you are looking for a place to eat, and you are in Grandvaux, go to Hôtel-Restaurant du Monde. They have a huge terrace with the most beautiful view! In Villette, try the Restaurant Le Villette for a treat! Make sure to reserve. More restaurant options are here.
If you need further persuasion, I should mention that this area is so beautiful that it’s even a Unesco World Heritage site!

For people who like meditating, another thing to do is to take the funicular from Vevey and head to Mont-Pélerin. Not only is the view amazing from there, but there is also a Buddhist temple that is the perfect place to get some positive energy and quiet time. Some people even stay in the monastery overnight, in order to share a meal and a fruitful conversation with the monks who study there. It’s a very interesting place!
