Summer Music Festival- Musique en été Festival

If the weather is good,  Parc La Grange on Wednesday and Friday, is a great place for chilling out and enjoying the music. Take a picnic and wine and enjoy free concerts from the Ella Fitzgerald stage. The concerts begin at 8.30pm but get there earlier if you want a seat or a place on the grass near the front.

Here’s the programme you can enjoy;

Musique en été is more than just free concerts in the park! People often forget that there is also jazz and classical music in the courtyard of the City Hall. It’s a great venue, with pretty good acoustics. I was there last year to see an opera and had a wonderful time!

Tickets for these concerts are between CHF 15 and 40, which is still very cheap compared to any other concerts in Geneva. Tip: concerts will take place at the Victoria Hall if it’s raining.

CineTransat

Our favorite open-air cinema started again at Perle du Lac, and it’s definitely a nice way to spend the evening with stunning views across the lake. It’s a great atmosphere, and it’s free…what’s not to love?

The movies start at sunset, but come earlier with your picnic to enjoy the lake view. Bring some blankets, as it can get quite chilly in the evening. Relax and enjoy!

CineTransat is on every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening until August 19 (weather permitting). All films are in original versions, with subtitles (except for French movies). They sell chairs for CHF 5, but it’s strongly recommended to bring your own as they don’t have very many.

Orange Cinema

From 25 July to 24 August, the open air Orange cinema features great films in a lovely environment on the lakeside.

Paléo

If you are wondering why there is so much traffic between Geneva and Nyon this week, here is the answer: everybody is off to Paléo music festival! You should probably take the train to get there if you don’t want to be late, or stuck on the highway. There will be special late trains and shuttles every night, and the system is very well-conceived, so you have no excuse!

The line-up is pretty amazing this year, with Elton John and James Blunt, amongst others.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a ticket yet, because they sell an additional 1,500 tickets for the evening concerts, everyday at 9am on their website. You’ll have to be fast, though, so don’t miss out!

About the Author

Originally from the UK, I have a legal background. I have been in the Geneva area since 2005 and love the mountains, the lake and the quality of life here. The Winter snow sports are fantastic and the Summer season is full of festivals, outdoor sports, picnics and barbecues. I have met some great people here from all of the world. Geneva is a cosmopolitan city with lots of cultural events and good restaurants and bars and I hope that through Biskotti I can share a few hidden places I have discovered…
